Math is easily the most requested subject for tutoring, with around 60% of students needing help in Math with or without other subjects. The fact is that the standard of Math in BC schools lags behind that for the same grades in most countries. Our students have the ability, if only they are given the time and the right support. Tutor Doctor has many tutors with directly relevant qualifications and experience in Math tutoring. We have helped many students in Vancouver to improve their math marks by 10% or 20%.
We meet many high school students who are missing some fundamental skills which are essential for higher level Math. Grades 8 and 9 are pivotal years in determining whether a student will have an opportunity to progress to the university level in any scientific discipline such as engineering, medicine, business etc.. But the options for progression through the years of High School Math can be baffling. We can help.
The BC Math curriculum is evolving. Over the past few years, some students and families have been surprised by the changes to the Math curriculum, especially in Grades 10, 11,12 with the introduction of three streams of Math: Apprenticeship and Workplace Math, Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus. Tutor Doctor can provide an outside perspective on the pathway that a student can select. And we have tutors with experience tutoring Math in grades 8-12 and in all the streams of the curriculum.
For elementary school students, we target early numeracy skills for students in primary years, and the full range of fundamental skills for later elementary years. Math tutoring is often combined with some of the program options we have for Elementary students.
Students learn Math in different ways. Many who learn mental Math skills early find no difficulty understanding every new concept as it is presented. Others find it very hard to connect Math to their real life. A Tutor Doctor tutor has the time to spend with each child to address his or her learning needs and learning style.
